There are so many food products on the market that block your body from burning calories and losing weight. If you eat a lot of high fat foods with lots of preservatives and additives, you are going to gain weight. Most high fat foods are called convenience foods. They lurk in every store you go to and beg your money right out of your pocket. They are not good for you but you want the convenience because you have a hectic life, so you give in and consume them. However, you will never lose weight if you consume them regularly.
A major key in weight loss is consuming fewer calories than you burn. Do this by eating fewer simple sugar products, like candy, cookies, and other sugar based products, and by eating fewer foods that contain white flour, like white bread, donuts, pizza, and bagels. Instead, opt for whole grain foods, non processed foods, low sodium foods, lean proteins, green vegetables, high fiber foods, and plenty of fresh fruits!
Of course, you can keep your metabolism high by exercising more too. The more you exercise, the more you’re burning calories! Strength training is one of the best exercises to lose weight that you can do. It combines aerobics with weight bearing exercise. With strength training you get the highest return for your efforts. The more calories you burn, the more weight you’ll lose!
At some point, you will also need to know how many calories your body burns in the course of a day. With this information, you’ll also know how many calories you need to eat to maintain or lose weight. Seems like a tall order but there is a handy formula for balancing your energy equation. If you want to burn calories, you’ll first need to calculate your BMR. (Basal Metabolic Rate.) BMR is the minimum number of calories you need to stay alive. Next you need to determine your energy output. That is based on your activity level. Use an RDA calculator like I have on my site, as the mathematical equation is a little tricky to calculate yourself.
Once you know how many calories you need to consume to maintain your weight, you can decide how many calories you should consume to lose weight. Recent studies also show that those people who keep a food journal are much more likely to succeed with their weight loss goals. Of course, there are many other ways to lose weight however, knowing your calorie RDA should be the first step in any weight loss program.
