Silky smooth flawless skin is a dream for many, to achieve which most are willing to try harsh and expensive medical treatments. However most people would instead prefer to use natural remedies to improve and treat skin diseases to avoid long term side effects of harsh treatments and invasive procedures.

At some time in our lives we all suffer from age spots, liver spots, which increase with age or deficiency of any sort. Sometimes even rough dark circles occur near joints or on the face, typically on the back of the hands and arms, and on the forehead, which is the symbol of the beginning in middle age.

Exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun initiates the making of the skin pigment known as melanin. As age increases, repeated exposure causes the distribution of the pigment tends to become irregular, resulting in patches and spots. The areas of the body that receive the most sun are naturally the most susceptible to this type of skin damage.

The ancient Chinese people have many natural remedies which include herbs and other ingredients that were very useful for skin care and other skin ailments. These herbs have become rare and are hard to find in a common store, these are best obtained from an expert in Chinese medicine. In general, these old topical treatments for age spots are either acidic or bleaching, and natural remedies for age spots tend to be acidic fruit preparations which are not at all harmful for the skin. However these age old Chinese traditions have died and a very less number of such remarkable herbs are left with us.

Today, aloe Vera is the most popular herb that is used up by people around the world for their varied skin problems. It has properties which make it a skin-soothing and anti-aging herb for skin treatment. It is widely used up in the skin care products like cleansers, face washes, massage creams, sunscreens, and anti-acne products. Tea tree oil is also widely used in skin care products for its antiseptic and anti-acne properties. Ginseng, sage, rosemary, witch hazel, chamomile, calendula, and arnica are also popular. These are used in the manufacture of skin care products for different skin types, based on their properties.

Herbs like Basil and mint are also widely used up in the treatment of acne. These herbs possess anti-bacterial and refreshing properties in them and are widely used up for almost all types of skin care treatments. If somebody is suffering from pimples then applying fresh basil or mint juice can be helpful. Turmeric is another essential ingredient in many skin care products because of its antiseptic quality. It ensures a glowing, blemish-free complexion. Fresh turmeric fingers can be ground with a little milk and applied on the face and the body.

Saffron is also used up in the most traditional medicinal and skin care preparations in the eastern countries like India and the Middle East. You can soak a few almonds and saffron strands in milk overnight and then ground into a paste with the milk. Mixed with rosewater, this face mask nourishes and revitalizes skin. These are simple herbal skin care preparations that can be made by everybody at home. However, elaborate herbal remedies should not be attempted at home without proper knowledge of herbs and their effects.

At last, there are some herbs that can be beneficial for your skin while some may not be. So it is better to use these herbs only if you are aware of its properties.
