Spring Beauty

Spring is a time when nature begins to spring forth as the air around us starts to warm. Spring is also a time of the year that we associate with starting a new. Many people begin spring by cleaning their homes, opening windows, and taking off layers of clothes they’ve been hiding under during cold winter months. Clothes really start flying when the weather warms up outside!

In winter people generally gain a few pounds and don’t pay as much attention to their skin. Now is a good time to take a close look at both! If you don’t like what you see, then start to make subtle changes. There are several things you can do to create the spring beauty in you. To be sure you’re ready, here are a few suggestions.

* Just as you shed clothes, now might be a good time to shed some of the dead skin cells on your body and face that have accumulated during the winter. Skin brushing is something anyone can do to help exfoliate dead skin cells on your body and flush the lymphatic system. Alpha hydroxy acids help slough off accumulated layers of dead skin cells on the face. Apply them at night for best results. Also use toners that have salicylic acid in them to help deep clean and shrink the pores.

* Start a good base tan on your body and face by using sunless tanning lotions. These help start a glow on your skin and help prepare your skin for hot summer days. These lotions work by bringing melanin to the surface. Melanin is the pigment in the skin that makes you look tan. Tanning lotions also help form a good base tan so there is less chance of burning the first time you really go out into the sun.

* If you’ve put on a few pounds over the winter, now is a good time to take them back off. One of the best ways to get them off quickly is to do a nutritional health cleanse. Other ways to shed weight are to pick a program or weight loss plan that you can stick to or feel comfortable with. Another way to lose a few pounds is to take wheat out of your diet for a month or so. Most people are allergic to the glutens found in wheat thereby making wheat the one food that will slow down metabolism like no other. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably raw. Fruit is most beneficial if it is eaten alone on an empty stomach. If you have to cook vegetables, steam them lightly until they’re just tender. Cabbage is also a good food to consume frequently as it promotes growth of lactobacteria in the intestinal tract which helps sweep debris from the colon. Eat only lean meat and cut out excess sugars.

* Spring might also a good time to get a trim or to try a new hair color. Spring is a time of bold colors, so try a few complimentary or contrasting highlights or lowlights in your hair. Don’t try a new haircut until you know that it’ll look good for your face shape. Virtual online tools are a great way to check out new cuts. There is no risk of a bad haircut that way.

* Chances are that you may not have been getting the exercise your body needs to stay tone during the winter months. Hands down, strength training is the best exercise to get tone fast. Strength training combines cardio exercises with weight bearing exercises. You get two in one! Backward lunges while lifting weights at the same time are a great way to start. Another strength training exercise is to lift weights while you walk. When you lift weights above your head, be sure to lift them in a ‘Y’ instead of straight up. Lifting in a Y position helps define the biceps and increases strength in the deltoids.

Just a few changes can really make a big difference. See if you can find the spring beauty in you!
